Drivers have two clear options as they take to the roads this summer: Complain endlessly about high fuel costs or take some easy steps that will maximize their fuel economy.
CAA spokesperson Nadia Matos says modifying your driving habits is key, a process that includes planning your driving route wisely to reduce excess kilometres.
Another proven fuel saver, says Matos, is reducing the weight your vehicle is carrying.
Along with good driving habits, such as avoiding rapid acceleration and hard braking, Matos says controlling your vehicle’s speed has a major benefit.
In addition, CAA says regular vehicle maintenance is also key, noting something as simple as underinflated tires increases fuel consumption by four percent.
