In preparation for the 2024 World Rowing Championships in St. Catharines, organizers aim to address previous concerns about a lack of business activity in Port Dalhousie following the 1999 event.
The 2024 Championships, taking place from Aug. 18 to 25 at the Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course, will draw 2,500 athletes from 80 countries, nearly 100 coaches, and an estimated 3,000 daily spectators, generating $17.5 million for the city.
St. Catharines’ city council has unanimously approved a $100,000 contribution to St. Catharines World Rowing Inc., with funding equally divided between the civic project fund and the new Municipal Accommodation Tax reserve.
