NIAGARA REGION – The Welland Canal Mayors jointly called for a swift return to negotiations in the St. Lawrence Seaway labor dispute, stressing the critical importance of Seaway operations.
Unifor President for Local 4212 Mark Bocchinfuso says they will stay on the picket line rain or shine.
“On the picket line we will be here 24/7 in solidarity, it doesn’t matter the weather. We will not hold up the public at all, and we thank you for all the support.”
Port Colborne, Welland, Thorold, and St. Catharines emphasized the evident consequences of the shutdown, with ships backed up at both ends of the canal.
