Niagara Regional police are investigating a double shooting in Fort Erie this morning.
Police say around 6:30am, a man and a woman were suffering from gunshot wounds in a parking lot near Derby Road and Rebstock Road.
The man was airlifted to an out-of-region hospital, while the woman is being treated locally. It’s believed the suspect is driving a tan or silver minivan. Police are still working on a suspect description, but add there’s an increased presence in the Crystal Beach area. Residents are asked to use caution, and report anything suspicious in the meantime.
While police are investigating, Derby Road is closed from Rebstock to Brewster.

Police say a suspect has been arrested after the suspect vehicle was found. More to come.

Niagara Regional Police continue to investigate a double shooting yesterday morning in Fort Erie.
Police say 78-year-old William Symes of Fort Erie has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, after two people were injured following an argument about collecting recycling from driveways around 6:30am.
Police allege he struck a man, who is now in critical condition, with a wooden baseball bat before shooting him. The driver of the vehicle picking up the recyling, a woman in her 40s, was also shot and is in serious condition.
Symes returned to the scene of the shooting around 9:00am and surrendered himself to police.
