The Welland Canal will kick off its shipping season this Friday, marking the 66th navigation season on the St. Lawrence Seaway.
The opening ceremony will take place at the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre, with ships starting to move at 8 a.m.
The Welland Canal, comprising eight locks linking Lake Ontario to Lake Erie, closed for the winter on January 7th.
