A Stoney Creek woman is celebrating after winning $20-million through LOTTO MAX in December.
Anna Pelka, a healthcare worker, says she’s always seen other lottery winners in the news and dreamt that she too would one day hit the jackpot.
Well, that jackpot was hit on December 20th, when she scanned her ticket and found that she was eight-digits richer. “I was on my way home from work when I stopped to get gas. Before heading to the cash register to pay, I decided to check my LOTTO MAX ticket on the ticket checker. When I did, a message appeared on the screen advising me to see the retailer,” Anna recalled, while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her windfall. “Shaking like a leaf, feeling hot and suddenly thirsty, I brought my ticket to the store clerk. From that moment on, everything became a bit of a blur. The clerk was so kind and brought me a bottle of water. It was a surreal and crazy moment.”
She says she went home, took a shower and told her husband about the win. With her winnings, Anna says she’s grateful that her children will be taken care of, adding that they can pursue the education of their dreams now.
The winning ticket was purchased at Petro-Canada on Mud Street West in Stoney Creek.
