Growing Up on the Farm, a look into local agriculture, presented by Niagara Fresh Market, also fueled by KUBOTA. We are profiling Niagara Fresh Market.
Getting into the family business because you’re raised in it is one thing – but marrying into a family business is something that isn’t quite as common.
For Trevor Van Hoffen, that’s exactly what he did. Now serving as the Retail Manager for Niagara Fresh, Van Hoffen got involved after getting married to his wife Julia, who’s father Peter Glasbergen is a third generation farmer himself.
Van Hoffen takes a lot of pride in his work on the retail-half of farming, but says this wasn’t always the plan for him – but was a natural fit.
What started as a self serve cucumber stand has grown to a 10,000 square-foot retail storefront and delivery service with a wide range of produce, dairy products, meat, ready made meals, canned goods, and baked goods. Niagara Fresh Market also features a large seasonal Garden Centre going from bedding plants and hanging baskets in the spring to Christmas Trees in the winter and everything in between.
Since its beginnings in the 50s, the third generation greenhouse has seen a number of changes and expansions along the way – including a delivery service that started as a result o the COVID-19 pandemic.
