On August 4th, 2023, a Niagara Regional Police officer on patrol in the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake noticed that the rainbow crosswalk at Anderson Lane and Niagara Stone Road had been damaged.
An unknown suspect had used black spray paint to write offensive words directed towards the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Police are urging nearby businesses and residents to check their surveillance footage for any suspicious activity.
The incident is being treated as a potential hate-based crime.
