Niagara Falls NDP MPP Wayne Gates has issued a statement regarding the recent closure of the library branch in Chippawa. Gates says the closure of the Chippawa branch is a significant loss for the community.
Gates says a library is more than just a place to borrow books; it is a community hub, a place of learning, and a safe space for all. He adds the burden on local municipalities and library boards has grown significantly, largely because the public libraries operating grant has not been increased by the provincial government in over 25 years.
Gates calls the closure a slap in the face to every person that believes in investing in public services, and is urging the government to step up and help the people of the province and increase library funding.
