The Ontario government has introduced the More Convenient Care Act, 2024, designed to improve access to health care and strengthen the system for future generations.
If passed, the legislation will merge nine Local Public Health Agencies into four, addressing staffing shortages and boosting performance. Other changes include modernizing electronic health records, allowing nurse practitioners to complete mandatory blood test forms, and exploring better mental health service options.
Deputy Premier and Health Minister Sylvia Jones said the act represents “bold actions and innovative solutions” to build a more connected health care system.
The proposed law also includes transparency measures for staffing agencies, updated public health regulations, and enhancements to ambulance standards, all aimed at improving patient safety and care delivery.
The act supports Ontario’s Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, ensuring residents can access the right care when and where they need it.
