Cryptocurrency scams are becoming more and more of an issue in the Niagara Region.
Niagara Regional Police says in 2024, 60 incidents were reported to police totaling more than $1.3-million in lost cash across the victims.
Police say fraudsters convince residents to transfer them money through a cryptocurrency ATM, which cannot be reversed. The fraudsters typically pose looking to collect payments for fake government debts, utility bills, or other fraudulent schemes.
Anyone who believes they are a victim of cryptocurrency fraud is urged to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service.
