An OPP officer in Vineland has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Ontario Special Investigations Unit.
On Halloween last year, OPP were called about a 52-year-old man who had threatened to harm himself, and approached police despite repeated asks from officers for him to stop moving towards them. A K9 unit was released, biting the man and causing serious wounds on his thigh.
SIU Director Joseph Martino says there were no reasonable grounds to believe that an officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man’s arrest and injury.
