Niagara Region is expanding its Automated Speed Enforcement Program after seeing positive road safety benefits.
Preliminary data shows a 13% reduction in speeds and a 67% decrease in speeding violations per hour.
Even after cameras are removed, areas with enforcement cameras continue to see slower speeds.
The expansion includes adding four cameras each in 2025 and 2026, rotating cameras in 12 more Community Safety Zones, and expanding to local municipal road networks starting in mid-2025 to early 2026.
Costs will be covered by fines, with excess fines invested in road safety as part of the Vision Zero initiative.
