In an effort to promote a greener community, Niagara-on-the-Lake Town Council has passed an Idling Reduction By-law that will take effect June 1.
The initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions produced by idling vehicles, fulfilling a step in the Town’s Climate Change Adaptation Plan. The By-law applies to both private and public property.
The By-law states that drivers are not allowed to idle their vehicles for more than three minutes. The program will be mostly complaint-driven and failure to comply with the Bylaw could result in a $350 fine.
