With Valentine’s Day tomorrow, police are sending out a reminder about romance fraud.
Sergeant John Armit from the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre and OPP says this is a type of fraud that happens regularly, so its important to be aware of it.
Armit says often times, scams like this are successful because of a trust level between the victim and the suspect.
He says every year the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre will see upwards of $50-million in losses reported from romance fraud alone in Canada.
